There wasn’t a cloud in sight as the sun rose on Destiny Church in Ashby. The temperatures climbed quickly, but this steamy Minnesota wedding day was no match for the joy pouring out of everyone in attendance (okay, there might have been a little bit of sweat pouring too). It was a day to celebrate.
The breeze lifted the leaves and cooled the brow while sounds of cicadas carried through the trees. With every eye and ear trained on Alec and Nicole, promises of love and commitment were exchanged. But before they turned toward one another and spoke those vows, they listened to these words of wisdom and encouragement: “Love is a choice”.
Sometimes we mistake love for a feeling, an idea, a dream. But the truth about love is that it is always a choice. Sometimes the choice is easy and we dive right into it, but sometimes the choice to love is hard…really hard…so hard that we don’t want to choose to keep loving.
The words of wisdom given to these two, this beautiful bride and groom standing on the edge of a whole new adventure, are words that we all need to hear and put into practice.
Love is a choice, one that we make everyday. We can choose to love only when it’s convenient and easy and we might feel as though we are safe or that we are protecting ourselves. Or we can choose to love when it’s hard. To forgive when it isn’t fair. To let go of offense and remember that we are all imperfect.
Love that goes beyond comfort and ease is the kind of love that makes lasting marriages, heals hearts, and raises up a new generation that chooses selflessness instead of selfishness. It is the kind of love that creates a legacy.
Alec and Nicole, we were honored and overjoyed to celebrate your wedding day with you. The way you two love one another now will only grow bigger and better with time. We look forward to watching your legacy grow! Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Woods!!
