Sunlight filtered through the clouds leaving everything covered in a warm, fall glow. Courtney giggled as Tyler wrapped her in his arms and kissed her.

Brophy Park Engagement Session

This Brophy Park engagement session was a perfect fall evening to spend with Tyler & Courtney.

But that’s not where things started.

We first met Tyler and Courtney over coffee at Starbucks on a busy Saturday morning this last summer. We connected right away and deeply enjoyed getting to know these two better. After the typical “get to know you” questions like “what do you two do?” we dove a little deeper to find out why they were choosing Alexandria for their wedding. We love getting to hear the “why” behind the “what”.

Lo and behold, Tyler has spent years coming to the cabin on none other than Brophy Lake and Courtney has joined him many years as well. Most probably don’t know that Brandon’s grandfather happens to live on Brophy Lake almost straight across from Brophy Park. Brandon even lived there for awhile in high school. So this is a place that means a lot to us as well.

This is not a large lake so to be on the lake means you know the lake. Tyler and Brandon settled right in like a couple of old guys talking about all the memories they’ve made on Brophy Lake along with all of the changes that have happened over the last few years. One of those changes being the opening of Brophy Park, which seemed like a near perfect place to begin this engagement session.

Tyler and Courtney have been together for a long time…we’re talking Jr High days. To say they know one another well would be an understatement. So much of their lives has already been intertwined and now? Well, now they will spend the rest of their days together. What a fairy tale.

The only problem with knowing each other really well is that it gets really hard to keep a secret…nearly impossible actually. So when Tyler knew that he was going to propose it definitely took some major moves to prevent Courtney from finding out. Usually in these kinds of situations, the only way to hide this big event is to keep things minimal and as ordinary as you can so as not to arouse suspicion. But Tyler had bigger plans than that. The kind of plans that involved inviting friends to join and even videoing the whole proposal live on Facebook so everyone could celebrate with them.

Tyler invited a few close friends to join them for a housewarming party and Courtney was all too happy to go along with that idea! He even got her a gift…a sweet photo book full of memories of their life thus far. Courtney teared up as she read through the book and looked at the photos. As she flipped to the last page, Tyler scooted off the seat and knelt down on one knee in front of her. He fumbled a bit as he got the ring box open. Then he said those precious words Courtney had been waiting to hear:

Will you marry me?

Courtney immediately said yes as tears of happiness flowed down her face. Their close friends and family all gathered around for hugs and shouts of excitement plus a few peeks at the ring. Tyler then informed Courtney that the entire proposal had been filmed on Facebook, live! Many of their friends had been in on the secret and would be joining them shortly to continue celebrating!

What a start to this brand new chapter.
