A Minnesota fall engagement session is always a beautiful choice. Living in the Midwest does have its benefits besides 6 months of winter and mosquitoes. And one of those benefits is fall, for however long you might get it.
This year, Minnesota fall left us desperately trying to hold onto it for a few more days, but what it did deliver was absolutely gorgeous! Joe and Alexa’s engagement session fell on a cloudy day with a bit of a chill, but they seriously brought the warmth through their joy and laughter.
But before we even got started, they wanted to make sure we were aware of one thing:
As photographers, we are not strangers to the concerns you have as you are preparing for your session. We completely understand that this might be one of the first times you have been photographed, or you’ve had a bad experience in the past, or you never really like photos of yourself, etc. The list could go on and on.
One of the most common concerns we hear is, “we aren’t very photogenic”. Have you ever said that? Have no fear, you’re amongst the majority of people!
Here’s the deal. Most of us do feel uncomfortable in front of the camera for a wide variety of reasons. Most people aren’t itching to have their photo taken, much less 1-2 hours of photos with photographers you hardly know. That pretty much sounds like a terrible, no good, very bad day, right?
Well, we’d like to prove you wrong 😉
We believe that we can prove you wrong that you aren’t photogenic. It is literally our JOB to not only help you look great in front of the camera, but to have fun with you and help you enjoy the entire experience! This is not like pulling teeth…we promise!
We believe we can actually help you look forward to having your photos done again in the future! Time and time again, we hear from our sweet clients that they had so much FUN during their session and they are no longer dreading their wedding day or their next year family photos. In fact, they are kind of looking forward to it!
So, back to Joe and Alexa and their “un-photogenic-ness” (that’s not a word).
The giggling really never stopped. Between the fun of the photos and getting to know Joe and Alexa more, we were all laughing for most of the session!
These two were up for whatever we threw at them and we had a great time trying some fun, new ideas! It was SO HARD to narrow these down because they were so ADORABLE!!
But, we can’t skip to the images without being sure to share the sweet story of Joe and Alexa’s engagement.
It was a great day for a hike. The trails in Duluth are among some of Joe and Alexa’s favorite to walk together and they set off for a stroll.
There was a mountain…well, a “mountain” would be more correct. A Minnesota mountain, if you will. This was one of their very favorite lookout spots. It had a gorgeous view and made for amazing photos.
Joe had brought the camera and he got the tripod set up and camera ready to go. Alexa stood looking out over the beautiful view as she waited for him.
Joe came jogging over, the self timer running. They stood close and smiled toward the camera as they waited for the click.
As soon as the camera had gone off, Alexa expected Joe to run back to set it up for another shot. She stepped back and turned away for a second, but quickly realized he hadn’t moved from his spot. She turned to ask him why he wasn’t going back to set it up for another shot only to find him down on one knee!
Joe had planned an awesome speech for her and after fumbling a bit he got himself on track and was actually able to remember what he had planned to say (way to go, Joe, Brandon was impressed since he couldn’t remember anything he meant to say).
Alexa was already saying yes before Joe could even get the ring out of his pocket. He slipped the ring on her finger and they stepped into a new chapter in their sweet story.
And now, we are so excited to share this un-photogenic engagement session with you 😉
Joe and Alexa-
We are so excited for your wedding at Lakeside next summer! It’s going to be such a beautiful day full of sweet moments and we assume lots of giggling 🙂
